You have your application items ready but want validation they're solid. And are ready to learn what it will take to become "operationally ready" to run your business.
You dream of starting a business in Minnesota’s new cannabis market and have been confused about the rules of starting one and what’s required.
You have an established cannabis-related business (i.e. low-dose hemp related) and plan on doing business in the MN adult recreational market.
You are a cannabusiness service provider (Investor, Security, HVAC, etc.) looking to network with serious future cannabusiness owners.
You are a cannabusiness ancillary owner (Processing, Manufacturing, Testing, etc.) looking to network with serious future cannabusiness owners.
You dream of growing and selling marijuana as a small business, such as selling locally in the craft industry.
You’re a seasoned business person eyeing a mezzo license to establish a large operation, possibly vertically integrated, and want to connect with other big players and operators.
You dream of running a dispensary in your town and want to connect with people who would finance your shop, and help you learn how to run it successfully.
You just think it’d be dope to start a weed business in Minnesota and want to know wtf that entails, without paying a lawyer a crap ton of money. (I've heard this a lot)
Who qualifies to apply during these social equity rounds in Minnesota?
People who have been convicted of marijuana sale or possession, or whose parents, children or spouses have such a conviction, either in Minnesota or elsewhere, prior to May 1st, 2023. Any convictions that occurred after this date unfortunately do not qualify, and in fact ban the convicted person from receiving a license.
All military veterans qualify;
Those who have been a resident for the last five years of one or more subareas that experienced a disproportionately large amount of cannabis enforcement (but we don't have maps for this yet); or...
Those who have been a resident for the last five years where;
-the poverty rate was more than 20%;
-the median family income did not exceed 80% of the statewide or metropolitan area’s median family income;
-at least 20% of the households receive assistance through SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program); or
-the population has a high level of vulnerability to toxic substances, as laid out by the CDC; or
Those who have participated in the business operation of a farm for at least three years and currently provide the majority of the day-to-day physical labor and management of a farm that grossed between $5000 and $100,000 in the previous year.
The key to being verified as a social equity applicant is demonstrating how you match one of these criteria and have been negatively impacted by the past prohibition of cannabis, which can give you certain advantages and support in obtaining a cannabis business license in Minnesota.
This workshop is also for you.
The social equity aspect is only one angle of the workshop. Most of the workshop applies to all cannabusiness and future applicants.
It’s advised to give yourself plenty of time to prepare your application to be as solid as it can be. So whether you are applying through Social Equity Status or not, this workshop, or recording, will help you. And in the event your application isn’t accepted in this round, the OCM will hold your application for the next round.
Promise
The truth is not everyone will be awarded a license. Applying for a license takes a lot of paperwork and planning. And running a business is not for the faint of heart. However, if you're on this page, you're probably not the type to shy away from opportunity.
While you must still put in the the work to build and run a business, The Grow House's mission is to support cannapreneurs with affordable education, resources, and community to help you start a cannabis business, and succeed in this industry.
